Between Systems is an independent publication launched in December 2025 by Giorgos Poulis - a Principal Engineer who’s spent over 20 years building systems, managing teams, and learning what actually works when theory meets reality.

I write about the messy, fascinating space where software meets people, process, and production. Drawing from decades of working across industries and with all kinds of teams, you’ll find:

Who Am I?

Currently based in Athens, Greece, I hold a PhD in Data Privacy and have built everything from massive-scale file sharing platforms to compliance-heavy enterprise systems. I’ve worked across fintech, SaaS, healthcare, and more - anywhere complex systems meet real constraints.

I write from personal experience and interactions, not textbooks. Expect practical insights, strong opinions loosely held, and the occasional battle scar from production.

Fair Warning

My sense of humor is decidedly retro. If your head is so full of worthless knowledge that you’re starting to forget the basics, if you catch yourself making ‘90s references that no one else gets, and if you’re a fan of Stranger Things - you’re going to like this blog.
